Michelini i Mufatto "GY" Gualtallary Tupungato '21

Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini are the owners and winemakers of Michelini i Mufatto, and they, along with their son, established their winery in 2019. They are located at the foot of the Andes, in one of the highest elevations of the Uco Valley, where the soil contains some of the richest components of calcium carbonate and granite in all of South America. This particular subregion is at the highest, westernmost portion of Gualtallary, in the north part of the Uco Valley, and is named La Cautiva. It’s an extreme vineyard, at an altitude of 1,600 meters in a secluded area of the Andes. The family currently works with Semillon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, and also makes wine in Uruguay and Spain. The estate practices organic viticulture.

The 2021 “GY” is a blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Franc, the two varieties that excel at translating the mountainous region in which they are grown. The grapes are selected from three different parcels, located at different altitudes throughout the high-elevation Gualtallary subzone in the Uco Valley, to show the character and terroir of this new region. The Malbec and Cabernet Franc are fermented together, with 30% stem inclusion of the Malbec only. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeast before aging in barrel for 18 months.

This is the ultimate red wine for grilled red meats!
